The Aquila Hills Discovery Kit is more than a packet of seeds. Each month, we explore one Australian native species through our philosophy:

Grow • Learn • Connect

Combining hands-on experience, science, reading and learning, creativity, and closer observation of the natural world.

Our June species is Billy Buttons, Pycnosorus globosus — a distinctive Australian native perennial recognised for its bright golden-yellow, spherical flower heads held high on long, slender stems. Its striking form and cheerful colour make it a standout in the garden, while its long-lasting flower heads are highly valued in fresh and dried floral arrangements, bringing structure, texture and colour to bouquets and botanical crafts.

Sown in winter, Billy Buttons offers a rewarding opportunity to observe the early stages of plant development as the seasons change. From its silvery-green foliage to its unusual globe-shaped flower heads, this species invites closer investigation of plant structure, flowering and the remarkable diversity of Australian native plants.
