A little piece of the Australian bush, delivered to your letterbox.

The Aquila Hills Discovery Kit is more than a packet of seeds. Each month, we explore one Australian native species through our philosophy:

Grow • Learn • Connect

Combining hands-on experience, science, reading and learning, creativity, and closer observation of the natural world.

Our April species is Kangaroo Grass, Themeda triandra — an iconic Australian native grass recognised for its fine foliage and distinctive branching seed heads in rich shades of copper, bronze and purple. Its elegant stems bring movement, texture and warm seasonal colour to the landscape, and can add a natural, sculptural element to dried floral arrangements.

Widespread across many Australian grasslands and open woodlands, Kangaroo Grass is an important part of our natural landscapes. Growing it offers an opportunity to explore the ecology of native grasslands, the role of grasses in healthy ecosystems, and the fascinating process of flowering and seed production.
