The Aquila Hills Discovery Kit is more than a packet of seeds. Each month, we explore one Australian native species through our philosophy:

Grow • Learn • Connect

Combining hands-on experience, science, reading and learning, creativity, and closer observation of the natural world.

Our February species is Silver Dollar Gum, Eucalyptus cinerea. Also commonly known as the Argyle Apple — a distinctive Australian eucalypt prized for its rounded, silvery-blue juvenile foliage. The smooth, coin-shaped leaves are highly valued in floral arrangements, bringing beautiful colour, texture and structure to fresh and dried bouquets. As the plant grows, its foliage changes in shape, offering a fascinating opportunity to observe how plants develop and adapt throughout their life cycle. Although is grows as a large tree, regular pruning can keep it in a shrub form, to encourage resprouting of those beautiful juvenile leaves.

Growing Silver Dollar also introduces the science of pruning and plant development. With suitable care, tip-pruning can encourage branching and help produce fuller juvenile foliage for harvesting.
